Canadian Fiddle Hall of Honour

In April 2022, the CGMFA Board of Directors voted unanimously to merge all three existing awards categories into the CGMFA Canadian Fiddle Hall of Honour. All previous recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Award of Merit, and the Canadian Fiddle Legends Award (Historical Lifetime Achievement) will be automatically inducted as members of the Canadian Fiddle Hall of Honour.

The selection criteria for the Canadian Fiddle Hall of Honour will encompass the overarching mission of the CGMFA alongside the criteria of the previous award categories. As such, criteria for entry into the Canadian Fiddle Hall of Honour is as follows, in no particular order:

  1. Canadian fiddlers who have made significant contributions to Canadian Fiddling. Considerations include numerous and significant live performances, radio and television appearances, recordings, and they are seen as ambassadors in the Canadian Fiddling community.

  2. Groups or individuals who have provided significant service to the Canadian fiddle community publicly and/or behind the scenes in the development, promotion, composing (creation), establishment or production of Canadian fiddle music. The award recipient will have raised the profile of Canadian fiddling in a significant, long lasting manner. Other considerations include: event organizing, education, projects, academic contributions, background support, media, journalism, promotion, supporters, and other musicians (accompanists).

  3. Fiddlers who had established careers and recognition before the establishment of the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Association and their passing.

  4. Fiddlers who were deceased when the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Association began presentation of its Lifetime Achievement Award in 1992 and were not previously recognized by the CGMFA. Considerations include their record of numerous and significant live performances, radio and television appearances, recordings, proof of visibility and known recognition as ambassadors for the Canadian fiddling community.

The Board of Directors will confirm 5-7 recipients to be inducted into The Canadian Fiddle Hall of Honour. It will be awarded annually and presented at the Competition in August.
